Jun 1, 2011 · Hey guys, recently painted my mates 63 pontiac. Being his first ever project, he purchashed ice blue nason full-thane. Sprayed it on sunday, came up alright for a metallic, a little streaky. He came down and asked how long before he could polish it, informed him as its a urethane style metallic it can't be polished. I just got myself all confused and need some clarification. :embarrass Nason Ful-Thane 2K Urethane is a single stage finish but it says 2K in the title, is it just a single stage? Do I have to shoot a clear over it if I’m using a metallic color? Automotive Art Motobase is superb for coverage and quality, however, color matches are not always on point, but it is one of the best solvent paints for complete paint jobs. well the 483-30 is the correct activator for your full- base b/c .(its 483-15 for full-thane urathane s/s) as for clear its kind of a crap shoot i use to use chroma clear 7800s. but i don't think they make it any more and it was very spendy. on my last few job have been using limco lc4200. anyway you need to take all your information to your paint suplier …It's getting harder and harder to find good single stage paints any more that can be mixed in the old colors, let alone those that are half-way affordable, since the refinish business has totally gone base/clear. one thing to keep in mind is the finish may dull out in a month after the initial cut/buff. nason is pretty easy to wet sand and buff after a month from what i have experienced with it. i noticed that if i do the wet sanding/buffing right after painting, it dulls out in about a month due to the paint curing and shrinking a little. so i prefer to have a vehicle back in a month or so and do it ...I never used Nason paints before, but I just sprayed a truck with a white single stage Nason “Ful-thane”. I applied two good coats per mixed per instructions. Paint cured up very fast even at about 55-60 degrees with a medium temp reducer. It had slight orange peel, which bugged me, so I took some 600 to it the next day.
