Turns out that ever since about 1995, The kill switch lanyard actually "turns off the key" when it is pulled off. The Older style would ground out the spark plugs. New style runs just fine without the lanyard attached.Insert the kill switch into the hole in the console, from the back side, and secure in place by screwing the attachment ring onto the threads of the kill switch bracket. Tighten the attachment ring in place with the pliers. Secure the spliced wires with the wire ties and reconnect the negative battery cable. Insert the key into the switch and ...

The dealer said it was the spark plug wire that was running directly over the distributor cap and arching, which caused the plugs to continue to fire. The new spark plugs didn't help, still doing it.For a RD25 which as Tan pointed out is a 1963 40 hp. Not a 1960. Here is the wiring diagram. Note your engine may not have all of the accessories depicted. Also check the wire colors carefully some wire colors may have faded.
